Safdar Khwaja


Safdar Khwaja hails from Lahore, Pakistan, and has been a US resident since 1977, a naturalized citizen since 1986, and a Pittsburgh resident since 1980. He is married with three grown children.

He earned his BSc in Engineering (he was a winner of the Quaid-e-Azam Scholarship) from the University of Engineering, Lahore, Pakistan, and his MSc in Engineering from the State University of NY at Buffalo. He also has an MBA from the Katz School of Business, University of Pittsburgh. He has held executive positions with Westinghouse Electric and Emerson Process Management in Pittsburgh where he received the George Westinghouse Signature Achievement Award for leading initiatives in Technical Advancement, and Marketing Awards for Business Growth and Global Resource Development. He is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, American Management Association, and the Instrument Society of America.

In 1986, he was a founding member of the Muslim Community Center of Greater Pittsburgh (MCCGP) and has played a leading role in organizing and constructing the Community Center. He is also a volunteer teacher in the City of Pittsburgh school system and a soccer coach. He is a regular community representative in Outreach and Interfaith dialogue. He has actively represented the Muslim community on televised and radio debates over the past ten years. He is a founding and current member of the CAIR-PA-Pittsburgh Chapter in 2007. Safdar is also an avid pilot, sportsman and traveler.
